Dr. Richard Zhu is an anesthesiologist specializing in Interventional Pain Medicine. He is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain conditions including joint pain, headache, degenerative disc disease, neuropathic pain, and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). He has a special interest in interventional treatments for cancer-related pain.

Dr. Zhu completed his undergraduate training at Duke University, where he majored in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience. He obtained his M.D. at the University of Maryland and completed his Anesthesiology Residency at Yale School of Medicine. This was followed by additional fellowship training in Pain Medicine at NY Presbyterian-Weill Cornell, Hospital for Special Surgery, and Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Dr. Zhu worked at Greenwich Hospital from 2018-2022, where he built a flourishing practice and eventually rose to direct the Pain Management Service there. He was listed by Greenwich Magazine among Fairfield County’s Top Doctors in 2022. He relocated to the Greater Hartford Area in 2022, where he works at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT as well as satellite locations in Avon, Farmington, and East Hartford.

Dr. Zhu believes in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care with the capability to offer the most cutting-edge therapies. This may include procedures besides simple injections including spinal cord stimulation, botox, and radiofrequency nerve ablation.
